I'm going to take a chance, here, in that you said you wanted to hear from those who don't feel like they're resilient (anymore)....

What about those of us who HAVE had the 'opportunity to develop strategies for effectively dealing with adversity' , and have even learned that those stategies worked for us, only to find out in later years that the strategies of 'yesterday' are now useless? How would one go about developing 'new' strategies in middle age?

Although I would NEVER begin to compare my own struggles with those of your (HEROIC, in my eyes) son, I still have to deal with 'me', and the fact is that I have (feels like) suddenly found myself in a position where the old strategies (that have worked all my life) are now obsolete. I'm no longer funny, certainly no longer 'beautiful', and my youthful optimism has taken a severe blow, to say the least.

So, what do you say to a 40-mid-something, single mother of two, who finds herself suddenly alone, un-needed, cast aside and sympathy laden? THIS is NOT who I am, nor who I was prepared to be, yet I feel like I have NOTHING left to offer......but, still, somewhere deep inside, I still have some tiny measure of hope....if only I can find it....
